Metalarte, S.A., Barcelona, Spain is a manufacturer of traditional and avant-garde lighting whose origins date back to 1932. The world-renowned global company began within the warmth of a simple metalworking shop where its founder, Antonio Riera felt a unique passion for bright, appropriate lighting…something most unusual in a country that used 125 volts until the beginning of the 1960s.
Today Metalarte combines a pride about its pioneer past and its new state-of-the-art factory and manufacturing abilities. They have chosen to work with such established and esteemed professional designers as Eric Franch, the Devessa Brothers, Josep Aregall, Alberto Lievore, Manuel Molina, Richard Ferrer and Manuel Molina.
To further the concept that the future is today, in 2003 Metalarte created its advanced laboratory, Metalab, that has commissioned such new designers as Jamie Hayón, Raymond Úbedy and Otto Candalda, Hector Seranno, Jordi Llopis, Emil Padros and Ana Mir.
Over sixty years ago George W. Hansen entered an association with Metalarte in Spain to produce his original Swing Arm Lamps and other designs which were done in collaboration with T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings. In 1991, Harry Hinson acquired Hansen Lamps. To this day many of the lamps in the Hinson Lighting collection are manufactured by Metalarte.
